A majority of questions we receive from new members of our community relate to the topic of assessments. 

As we pride ourselves on providing creators with in-depth information to make their journey as smooth as possible, we decided to write down everything you need to know about assessments in one place.

What is an Assessment? 

It is “permission” to sell a product. It means that an assessor with the qualifications required has assessed the products that can be made, and has deemed them as safe to be used by people.

Why Do I Need One? 

An assessment is a legal requirement and will help you keep out of trouble! It means that the formulation has been checked over by a scientist who will ensure that the ingredients are safe to be used at those levels. 

The assessment is written in your name and permits you to sell your products legally within the UK and EU.

What Do They Include? 

Assessments come with a “pre-made” report compromising of a range of ingredients that you are allowed to use to make your specified product. They are usually a set base recipe, with many fragrance and colourant options.

You do not have to buy every colour and every fragrance listed, but it gives you the permission to do so. Please note that ingredients are sold separately.

Where Can I Buy an Assessment From? 

At Soak Rochford, we have nine products for you to choose from and each one of those has four different variants of approved ingredients, so you can choose the option that best suits you. Choose from:

We do see people who, for one reason or another, sell products they do not have assessed and always get caught out. The risk really isn’t worth it when so much is at stake. 

If you want to do this as a hobby, then an assessment will ensure that the products are safe to use and have an assessor’s seal of approval. If you want to make a business of things, then it’s an absolute minimum requirement.
