Preventing premature activation in your bath bombs by utilising these top tips
Crafting the perfect bath bomb feels so rewarding, but one common challenge is preventing it from activating too early. This happens when a bath bomb starts fizzing or reacting before it’s intended to.
Here are some essential tips to help cosmetic creators ensure their bath bombs remain dry and intact until they’re ready to be used.

Control Humidity Levels
Humidity is the primary culprit in premature activation. Always work in a dry environment, ideally with a humidity level below 40%. Using a dehumidifier in your workspace can help maintain optimal conditions.
Use Dry Ingredients
Ensure all your ingredients are completely dry before starting. Baking soda, citric acid, and other dry components should be stored in airtight containers to prevent moisture absorption.
Measure Liquids Carefully
Liquid additives, such as water or witch hazel, are necessary to bind the ingredients but must be used sparingly. Add them slowly, using a spray bottle to evenly distribute moisture without over-saturating the mixture.
Mix Quickly and Efficiently
Work quickly when combining wet and dry ingredients to minimise the time moisture has to activate the citric acid and baking soda. Use gloved hands or a stand mixer to blend the mixture thoroughly but swiftly.
Store Properly After Moulding
Once your bath bombs are moulded, let them dry in a cool, dry place. Store them in airtight containers or wrap them tightly in plastic wrap to protect against humidity. Adding silica gel packets to your storage containers can also help absorb any residual moisture.
