Do your future self a favour and start preparing for the new year now
As a small business owner, it’s all too common to promise yourself that you’re going to be more organised every year. Well, we’re holding you accountable to make that happen right now!
It can be extremely difficult to think ahead when you’re not only running a business, but also a family and a home as well. And as much as being a one-man band can be beneficial in a lot of ways, it also means that you can get away with letting things slide…
So, here are a few things that you can start doing now, that will make your 2023 much easier.

Get Your Finances Under Control
How many of you shudder at the thought of crunching numbers?
Well, instead of leaving everything until the last minute, keep a detailed log of all your finances and make a note to update this on a monthly basis. This should include all of the income you have received and all of the outgoings you have paid – make sure to also differentiate which payments have been personal.
Then, when the time comes to submit your tax return, you’ll already have all of the information you need and will be able to fill it out in 15 minutes. If it’s your first time filling one out or you’d just like some more help, here’s a great video on how to do it.
Perfect Your Designs
The phrase “practise makes perfect” couldn’t be more relevant when it comes to cosmetic creation.
Spend some time taking a look at your current inventory and think about what you would like to do to take them to the next level. Are you interested in learning how to airbrush? Would you like to try your hand at neons? Or do you want to start sprinkling some more glitter on your products?
Take a look at our Pinterest and save any images that inspire you so that you can use the upcoming cold and wintery days to test out new designs.
Try Something New
If you’re feeling a bit unmotivated and want to spice up your work life, it might be time to try something new.
This could be related to the products you currently offer or it could be how you do business. Try out one of our other assessments to see just how incredibly transferrable your skill set is or apply it to showcase your stock in different areas, such as at a local craft fair!
Get Active on Social Media
Although this point tends to intimidate some, it doesn’t have to be so scary.
Instead of worrying about having to lip sync or dance, think about how beneficial it could be for your business.
In order to separate your feelings about personal social media from those relating to business, you need to have a plan. First, think about what you want to achieve (e.g. 50 sales in a month) then, consider who you’ll need to target to achieve this (e.g. affluent mums).
Bare these two points in mind constantly and make sure that whenever you’re creating content that it will be received well by this specific audience and it’s working towards your goal.
And also, remember to have fun! Social media doesn’t have to be so serious all the time.
